The Spencer Home
Another Successful Project
What made this project a success? The Spencer project was a success because of the amount of time and effort spent planning during the preconstruction / design phase of the project. The team consisted of the owners, Chris & Polly Spencer, architectural firm, 3 North (Jay Hugo, Fred Garrett, and Cary McCutcheon), interior designers (Lili Obrien and Leigh Anne Muse), and Franko – LaFratta. We were all committed to the time involved in the planning process.
Project
The project consisted of the construction of an open porch with a wood burning fireplace, renovation of an enclosed porch and hardscape / landscape which included multi level blue stone terraces, stairs and curved garden walls. This was a very detailed site plan. A lot of effort went into properly marked grades, the layout of curved walls, and maintaining the architect’s vision between the hardscape, main house structure and the landscape.
Project Expectations
We were able to maintain alignment of expectations by having weekly site meetings with the team. Because of the time spent during the preconstruction phase we had created a collaborative environment where everyone felt comfortable contributing ideas. This really made the project enjoyable for all and something to be proud of upon completion.
End Result
The open porch, enclosed porch, hardscape and landscape totally transformed the home experience. The graceful comfort of the new spaces make you never want to leave. Recently, we overheard someone comment that they would love to have a week or two there to write their book.
Every detail was carefully considered even down to the custom serving table on the raised terrace. There is a level of peacefulness and serenity combined with thoughtful architecture enhancing the Spencer's daily living and bringing a soothing feeling to the home, both inside and out.
